Kentucky Lake Bridge

Southwest Kentucky

Kentucky Lake Bridge: The Lake Bridges over Kentucky was a $450 million project to replace two bridges in the land between the Lakes region in southwestern Kentucky. The Kentucky Lake Bridge replaced the former Eggners Ferry Bridge and widened two miles of US68/KY80 to four lanes. The Kentucky Bridge is 3,611 ft long and has three units: the west approach, steel arch main span, and the east approach. The Kentucky Lake crossing also has a 580-ft-long three-span bridge to keep environmentally sensitive parts of the lagoon untouched. Shawnee Steel & Welding provided three miles of railing for the Kentucky Lake Bridge, for three separate rails. They provided a single rail along the roadway, a double rail, and a pedestrian rail with scenic panels. This bridge is in the New Madrid Seismic Zone, so the steel used for the construction must be lighter and efficient to reduce seismic loads transmitted to the substructure.
