Minnesota/State Ave Transit Corridor Improvements

Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas

State Avenue Connex is a joint initiative between the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) and the Unified Government Transit (UGT) of Wyandotte County Kansas City, Kansas to improve the existing Minnesota/State Avenue transit corridor. Funded with federal TIGER grants, improvements along the existing Minnesota/State Avenue Travel Corridor include bus passenger shelters and benches, bus stop platforms, improved pedestrian connections, and landscaping. Shawnee Steel & Welding fabricated the structural steel canopies that protect riders from sun, heat, and inclement weather, along with steel railings and trash enclosures. Because the design of the structural canopies required expansive wings that were larger than the transport trucks, the steel canopies were built onsite. Shawnee Steel worked closely with the project owners to ensure safety and successful installation.
