Northwestern University Visitors Center

Evanston, Illinois

Northwestern University’s Segal Visitors Center is a $35 million lakeside sailing and visitor center, topped with a two-story car parking facility. Two of the exterior facades feature a tensile screening that incorporates a signature sailing theme by depicting water waves. This is achieved by 94 thin-width vertically curved fabric panels set at right angles to the building with alternate panels curving towards or away from the building. Shawnee Steel & Welding fabricated the structural steel frames, which required multiple attachment points to realize the desired design.
