Smith Avenue High Bridge Ornamental Rail

St. Paul, Minnesota

The 2,760-foot Smith Avenue High Bridge in St. Paul, Minnesota allows Minnesota State Highway 149 and Smith Avenue to cross the Mississippi River. To make the bridge safer for pedestrians and traffic, the bridge’s waist-high railings were replaced with a design specified by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Health. Shawnee Steel & Welding fabricated 5,600 feet of architectural steel to create a 10-foot high ornamental railing on each side of the bridge.
